  Task 1 考题预测

  1)Bar(柱状图)

  The bar chart below shows the changes of population in four countries in 1950, 2002 and the predicted 2050.

  Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. .

  The bar chart compares the difference of total world population in four countries in 1950 and 2002, and also shows the predicted population in 2050.

  It is clearly evident from the chart that the majority of nations experienced downward trends in this period except for India, among which China used to be the top one in the population but it will be exceeded by India in the future.

  The percentage of Chinese population ranked first in 1950, meaning over a forth of world population came from China (about 21%), while this figure decreased continuously in the following years, bottoming out at 15% in 2050. In contrast, there was a steady increase in the rate of population in India, from 15% to the projection of 20%, this figure being the highest one in 2050.

  As for USA and Japan, the percentages were relatively lower, with the former declining slightly to 6% in 2002 before remaining at this level for the next years until 2005. Meanwhile, the latter fell gradually, decreasing from 5% to 3% in 2002, and further dropping to 1% in 2005.

  2)Table(表格图)

  The table gives information about 5 types of products exported from Hong Kong in 2009 and 2010.

  The chart reveals the change in the number of 5 kinds of products exported from HK during two years from 2009 to 2010.

  During the two years, the amount of Manufacturing Equipment exported from HK was the greatest, increasing from 10.3 HK$ billion in 2009 to 11.6 billion in 2010 with the total percentage change of 12.6%. Also, the growth in that of telecommunication was a little greater from 7.9 billion to 11.7 billion during the same timeframe and the total percentage change accounted for 48.1%. Although the income from exported metal from HK, which only reached 2.3 million in 2009, rose to 5.1 million in 2010, the total proportion change was the greatest (121.7%).

  However, there was a decrease in the export of clothing from 6.5 HK$ billion in 2009 to 5.2 billion in 2010, the total percentage change occupying -20%. The 2 years witnessed a slight decrease in the export of machinery as well from 5 million in 2009 to 4.8 million in 2010 and the rate of total change accounted for -4%.

  Overall, the total exported products from accounted for 32 million in 2009 and increased to 38.4 million in 2010 and the total percentage change takes up 20% during the two years despite the decrease in that of clothing and machinery.

  Figures show that some countries have an ever-increasing proportion of the population who are aged 15 or younger. What do you think are the current and future effects of this trend on those countries?

  In this day and age, a larger percentage in the demographic age has been taken by the youth generation. Some people believe that the increasing number of youngsters will exert significant influences on the society. This essay mainly probes into several possible effects young people will bring to their countries.

  The very first influence of the boom in the younger population is that the unemployment rate of young people will strike in those countries. The current job market is less likely to offer the growing job opportunities because the amount of vacancy can hardly increase within short period of time. This disparity will be even more fierce on certain decent jobs that require technical skills and professional knowledge. Therefore, numerous young workers would only have temporary jobs or even get unemployed, which may intensify the social contradictions.

  On the other hand, the distinct advantage of population with the majority of teenagers is that the burdens on healthcare, social benefits programs and pension from those governments will be relieved because working population usually requires less of them. Furthermore, a great deal of youthful generation means potential workforce and productivity, which will contribute a large tax base to those countries. In that case, more infrastructure and social services will be able to invested with the economic growth of those countries. Therefore, the overall quality of life and well-being of citizens of all ages will be enhanced.

  Obviously, we can draw the conclusion that mounting youthful population is a double edged swore, which will cause society unrest with the soaring youth unemployment, and boost up the economy developments because of the high percentage of productive workforce.

  2)利弊讨论类

  Today, many young people in the workforce change their jobs or careers every few years. What do you think are the causes of this? Do the advantages of this outweigh its disadvantages?

  Contrary to the argument of some that it is advisable to find a desirable job and stick to it as long as possible so as to accumulate experience and to become specialized in that career, I firmly hold that if there are plausible reasons for employees to make a change, whether it is a change of work place or a change of occupation, they should just go ahead and set up their minds to grab that chance without hesitation. As for me, these plausible reasons can be stated as follows.

  First of all, changing jobs is always promoted by interests. Nobody can make sure that the job that they are going to choose will be the job that they are going to like. Jumping into jobs you don’t like and sticking to it until the age of earth and the extend of heaven is a silly way to get yourself enmeshed in a web of your own spinning. Whenever you realize that you are doing something that you are not fond of, you should abandon it instantly. Not only is it a liberation for yourself, but also a extrication for your employers, so that they can find someone who would devote more to this career, which is absolutely a win-win situation.

  Secondly, job-hopping is stimulated by the desire to to testify one’s personal value. Man struggles upward while water flows downwards. It’s no wonder that people will choose somewhere with higher payment, better welfare or brighter development perspective. Some may think that this is unfair to former employers who utilize so much resource into cultivating employees and that frequent job-hopping will leave a bad impression to others. I have propose a different viewpoint: the old saying “ pressure derives impetus” applies to employees as well as employers. For employees, they are afraid of being superseded by new comers, so they have to work by their best to attest their value. For employers, they have to create better working conditions to prevent the possibility that their excellent workers might be attracted by other better offers. So, this kind of pressure can trigger a positive interaction to improve the entire workforce.

  All in all, I trust that the advantages of job-hopping for employees can absolutely outweigh the disadvantages for both the employees and the employers. Ability speaks louder than words. If you deserve better, then choose better.

  3)同意与否类

  Doing team/group activities can teach people more important life skills than doing individual activities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  In recent decades, with the development of international trade and Cross-country Corporation, there is a heated combat zone about whether the benefits of teamwork overweigh individual work. From my perspective, I strongly agree that more advantages can be brought by group activities compared with working alone.

  Admittedly, Working alone, rather than group work, is considered to be relatively efficient and can cultivate the skill of independent action. This is due to the less time spent on the accumulation of ideas, and discussion. To be more specific, a person doing individual activity is able to work quietly without any disturb. Once the solution or key idea has been come up with, the project can be tackled in a short time with high efficiency.

  However, there is no doubt that group activities are beneficial for more comprehensive abilities. Firstly, resource sharing could come to reality in teamwork, which plays an important role in dealing with some complex problems. It means everyone in the group is able to contribute independent thinking so that the group can collect various methods to certain issues. With different solutions provided, the most feasible and effective one can be identified readily.

  Secondly, teamwork is an essential way to develop the ability of communication, interpersonal relationship, as well as listening. During the discussion in a group meeting, everyone needs to put forward own opinion, and back up or disapprove others, suitable explanations should be offered. As a result, what this process brings is the communication with other member and listening, which can show respect for group member.

  In conclusion, given the reasons mentioned, it is true that there are more benefits of teamwork than individual activity. It is also projected that the skills offered by teamwork enable people in all works of life to adapt to various environment.
